About Jamie

Representative Jamie Long has dedicated his career to leadership in public service, grassroots advocacy, and progressive politics at the national, state, and local level.


Representative Long previously worked in energy, environment and transportation policy, helping to turn innovative ideas into law in the U.S. Congress – serving as Legislative Director for Rep. Ellison, Legislative Counsel for Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), and Legislative Counsel for Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO). In law school, Jamie spent time with a Public Defender’s office, and aided legal efforts at the Natural Resources Defense Council’s Climate Center. He received his J.D. from George Washington Law School and his B.A. from Carleton College.


Jamie lives in Southwest Minneapolis with his wife and high school sweetheart, Melissa, and their one-year-old son, Ryan. He is active in the community, chairing his neighborhood council, and volunteering to help organize the DFL Senate District. He serves on the board of Minneapolis Climate Action, where he led efforts to build a community solar project in Southwest Minneapolis, for which he was honored as a “40 Under 40” energy policy expert. He also previously served on the Minneapolis chapter board of the progressive legal organization the American Constitution Society. Jamie’s hobbies include adventures outdoors, listening to music, playing Ultimate Frisbee, reading history, watching classic movies, and singing.
